Welcome! My name is Shawna, and this blog is an attempt to navigate my 20’s, and appreciate the raw beauty of the island I live on*.
*Vancouver Island is the traditional land of the Coast Salish, Nuu-Chah-Nulth, and Kwakwaka’wakw people.
If you’re trying to find yourself after post-secondary, hoping to travel to BC, or just looking for ways to appreciate small moments more often, you’re in the right place!
A bit more about me:
I’m 25 years old, and I’ve lived on Vancouver Island since 2016, in Victoria, Nanaimo, and now the Comox Valley. I spent 5 years at the University of Victoria, studying marine biology and as you might guess, I LOVE the ocean. I also love being active and outdoors – in my free time you can find me sailing, skiing, swimming, rock climbing, and hiking. I’m constantly on the search for amazing cocktails and restaurants with great vibes too.
Exploring and trying new things brings me so much joy, and I’ve adventured around most of this island, and a lot of the West Coast – from Alaska to California. I’m obsessed with this rock I call home, and can’t wait to share my innermost thoughts about it to the world!
However, in the name of brutal honesty, I have a lot of days where I don’t do anything I enjoy. I face the daily struggle of living in a new town away from my friends, working a draining dead end job, and dealing with anxiety and imposture syndrome. It’s been tough adjusting to a new life, especially without the structure of university. I’ve thought about switching my career path 15 different ways and debated spending thousands of dollars to go back to school. I often think I’ve hit a dead end, and have to backtrack just to get anywhere else. While I’m not a therapist, if you want to hear about my struggles to validate your own, here they are!
If anything has resonated with you so far, I hope you stick around for more! I would love to build a community of like-minded people, share my words and make new friends along the way.
